Bedside Management of the ECMO Patient from the Nursing Perspective


Host: Anita North - RN, B. Paramedic Practice, Dip. ECMO, ECMO Specialist Anita started her nursing career in Sydney, Australia at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2011. With a range of cardiology and cardiothoracic experience in Coronary Care, Cath Lab and the Cardiothoracic areas of medical centers. In 2015 Anita started working as a nurse in the Cardiothoracic ICU at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, UAE. She is currently the team lead for ECMO, focusing on education, training and quality improvement.

 

When not in the ICU, she is usually found in the kitchen entertaining, reading or dreaming of her next travel plans.

Special Guest: Keith - BSN, RN, CCRN Keith received his BSN from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL and started his career in the Cardio-Thoracic ICU at Tampa General Hospital. It was there that he started working with cardiac surgical patients, often requiring mechanical circulatory devices such as LVAD, Impella, IABP, and ECMO therapy. Keith is an outstanding ECMO nurse who offers excellent care to patients receiving ECLS therapy.

Dr. Chacon-Lozsan Francisco Dr Francisco, a Venezuelan medical doctor who graduated from Lisandro Alvarado University, Intensive Care Medicine Specialist. He received special training in acute cardiovascular care at Harvard University in cardiology, cardiovascular research and cardiovascular intensive care as well as advanced hemodynamic monitoring at the University of California. Research interests include hemodynamics, shock and lung mechanics. He is currently working at Koranyi National Institute of Pulmonology in the COVID Intensive Care Unit and ECMO support in Budapest.

Special Guest // Discussion: Enrico Squiccimarro CCP Enrico is a Certified Clinical Perfusionist at the Mater Dei Hospital, Bari, Italy. He is currently also a Medical student at the University of Bari (Bari, Italy) and a Ph.D. student at the Heart and Vascular Center, Maastricht University Medical Center (Maastricht, The Netherlands). He has been working in several institutions around Europe since the beginning of his career both as Perfusionist and Researcher. ECMO is one of his major interests.
